Ideas for Commemorating The Centennial
of Women’s Suffrage

The WHC is partnering with numerous institutions to bring together Washington Women's History Resources online for students and members of the public to learn more about Washington Women’s History. One specific event that the WHC is planning for is the Washington Centennial Suffrage Commemoration in 2009-2010. The Washington State Women’s History Consortium Recommendations For Commemoration of the 2010 Centennial of the Women’s Suffrage Amendment to the Washington State Constitution report is available on this site. The report outlines WHC recommendations for the centennial celebration. The WHC is looking for community involvement from all parts of the state. With that in mind, the WHC poses these questions to each community:

• What are your ideas for commemorating the Centennial of Women’s Suffrage in Washington?
• What ideas in the report do you like the most?
• What projects or programs would you most likely attend--exhibits, speakers, plays, musical events, or re-enactors?
• Would you be likely attend a major exhibit in Tacoma, Yakima or Spokane?
• Would you buy a book about the history of Washington Women’s Suffrage?
• Did you know what the term "Suffrage" meant before you read the report?
• Do you have any stories about women in your family voting or participating in the campaign for women’s suffrage that you would like to share? Please fill out the form below.
• Do you have any materials you would like to contribute to the exhibit or other projects?
• What kinds of programs or projects would you like to see in your town or county that would complement the statewide commemoration?
• What events in your area could include a women’s suffrage or women’s history component in 2009-10?
